Syllabus and Teaching Philosphy
About Me:
With over 20 years of award winner art director & designer experience, along with an extensive art education background, I bring a diverse and thought provoking background to the classroom. From ages from 3-103, I have taught several mediums in fine art and jewelry fabrication. We are all creative, I tap into a student's true ability to explore their hidden talents and give them an introduction to new creative outlets. All of my courses offer the opportunity to get lost in your work through mindfulness (one with your work).
My Philosophy
Learning is a journey which we will travel on our entire life. It has been my mission to develop and explore the creativity of my students and to bring their creativity to the forefront of their learning journey. The brain has an endless capacity to learn, therefore, we continue to learn as we get older. It is mandatory to keep up with the evolutions of life. I teach through creativity and I will always find ways to help my students function through their own creativity.
Syllabus
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course focuses not only on creativity but also examines it through the lense of an older adult. It captures their specific needs, interests and historical background. This course is adaptable to all the abilities and limitations of the older adult. It also offers a forum to share. learn, communicate and experience with other adults of all ages. Finally it offers a creative outlet to build mind and hand/eye coordination.
Still Life Collage - a fine art medium discovered by Pablo Picasso and George Braque in 1912 at the end of the Cubism era – is now a newly rediscovered medium which is not only creative but also supports sustainability.
Weekly Breakdown - Collage
This is a 8 week course which will meet online one day a week.
Each week we will advance our skill, knowledge and technique in our lessons. Weeks will be broken down into modules on Canvas. The Modules might include videos, virtual tours through studios and galleries, as well as, readings about fine artist, techniques, and mediums. The schedule is subject to change as we proceed (elements of the lessons may be added, moved or deleted).
Mod 1/2 (week 1/2)
Introduction to the class and your instructor
Review of how to access canvas, self-serve and important tools
Class syllabus
What you will need
Lessons will span 1 to 20 weeks and advance
What different tear technique mean (motion and texture)
Intro to mapping or using a template
Mod 3/4 (week 3/4)
Creating composition
Color: where does it come from, what is value, tone, shade
How to read the color wheel and look at and plan color
Begin to tear magazine pages and collect for college
Glue to our maps and templates
Mod 5/6 (week 5/6)
Continue to work on our present collage
Start the second collage. As we progress - thinking about creativity in color, placement and mood (what does color say about mood),
what is the message is being sent and received
Mod 7/8 (week 7/8)
Look at abstraction, create abstraction, story telling
What impact can color, tearing and direction have in collage
Allow personal creativity dictate a layout, composition and color
Reflect and upload all your final pieces to the discussion board
Supplies: magazines, glue stick pencil paper, online template, access to canvas
Homework: during this course, you will be asked to do some simple research, create some sketches and collect magazines and colors for our work during our class. You may even complete projects between classes, create designs or find templates and explore tearing techniques and materials. Every finished project must be uploaded to our dicussion board
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is for everyone. It builds hand/eye coordinated, focus, and it is thought provoking. The course will combine several abilities from simple sketching, to manipulating wire through the use of tools. The course will tap into many of the challenges older adults face and begin to strengthen them while giving them a creative outlet.
Jewelry Workshop will explore the basic and advanced skills employed in wire jewelry fabrication. Every age can achieve accomplishments in this class and learn about jewelry making as a hobby or business.

Homework: during this course, you will be asked to do some simple research, create some sketches and collect materials for our work during our class. You may even complete projects between classes, create designs and shop for beads and wire to experiment with. Every finished project must be uploaded to our dicussion board
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Watercolor is just that, water with color. This course will explore all the ways to navigate and create with watercolor. How to control it, build it up and create detail. This course speaks to no only the older adult but the individual who wants to learn how to paint. We focus on color, light and shadow of a composition. We will explore paper types, very simple tools and subjects. This course will build focus, hand/eye coordination, patience and control.
Exploring Watercolor will demonstrate and introduce the students to different styles of painting within watercolor, as well as the tools and techniques used in watercolor.

Understanding how to control watercolor flow, depth and consistency
Learning how to create shadow, dimension with one color
Understanding that watercolor is colored water
How to employ tools, such as, paper towels for control and texture
Begin and complete our first watercolor painting - Wet on Dry
Discuss and begin our next - Wet on Dry painting
Wet on Wet or next technique. Begin with a sunset
Mod 5/6 (week 5/6)
Combine Wet on Wet with Wet on Dry. Mountain scape
Explore Dry brushing, detail, texture using brushes and paper towels
Mod 7/8 (week 7/8)
Continue with all three techniques and introduce salt water in a spray bottle for added techniques
Create a painting with salt, wet on wet and dry brushing
Reflect of what we have learned and what is your favorite technigue, write a reflection

Homework: during this course, you will be asked to do some simple research, create some sketches and experiment with mixing colors, making textures and creating a library of techniques for our work during our class. You may even complete projects between classes. Every finished project must be uploaded to our dicussion board
