Pathway Courses Internships About us Graduates & Surveys

The San Ysidro High School Medical Pathway is a proud partner of the University of California, San Diego Health System.

The Medical Pathway (MP) at San Ysidro High is a program designed to study science from a medical perspective to improve comprehension, application and lesson extension. Students will complete at least four years of medically-related courses, apply concepts to activities within the community and partake in exclusive opportunities with healthcare industry partners.

Through a partnership with UCSD Health System, San Ysidro High School is one of two high schools in the Sweetwater Union High School District to offer a Medical Pathway program. This program is designed for students who are interested in a medical or health science career, while fulfilling their UC/CSU approved “D” lab college preparatory science requirements.

The San Ysidro High Medical Health Science Pathway focuses on analyzing the core curriculum from the California State standards and reinventing it to make it more applicable for the student who hopes to someday work in the health care industry. This is accomplished through a collaborative effort between pathway teachers and industry partners to allow students to apply their knowledge to a community extension activity or project. Discussions center around what the industry partner require in terms of skill level and critical thinking, and then designing labs and lessons to meet those needs.

This innovative philosophy is apparent throughout the UC-approved, A-G Medical Pathway science classes, including Medical Biology, Medical Chemistry, Biotechnology and Anatomy & Physiology.
