Reflecting on My Journey: From Classroom to Workplace

Building this E-Portfolio has helped me see that my experiences, from leading a grammar board game team to mentoring a struggling peer, are not just achievements. They are evidence of workplace communication skills.

 In the GrammaGrove project, I faced a real challenge: my team had diverse opinions on game mechanics. Using active listening and the Sandwich Feedback method, I turned potential conflict into creativity. That’s directly relevant to today’s workplaces, where cultural and generational differences can lead to miscommunication (as we discussed in the group discussion in the first assessment on Generational Communication Differences).

As part of the Publication and Promotion division for three clubs, I managed Instagram content for 1,000+ followers. I learned that inclusive communication means adapting tone, visuals, and captions for different audiences – similar to how Politeness Theory suggests we adjust language based on power dynamics. When we promoted events, I always considered whether our message respected diverse backgrounds.

My volunteer work with OKU students taught me non-verbal communication and patience – skills crucial for remote or hybrid teams where visual cues are limited. And mentoring a peer from a 2.7 to a 3.58 GPA showed me that respectful feedback can transform performance.

These experiences have prepared me for roles in EdTech, media, or NGOs. I can analyse communication breakdowns, propose strategic solutions, and lead with empathy. This portfolio is not just a collection of my past – it is my promise to contribute to inclusive, effective, and respectful workplaces.
