Welcome to the South Wales Traverse (SWT) website.

We hope the site will promote the round, be a useful resource for attemptees (schedules, routes etc), provide a place to publish reports and keep the table of completions up to date. There are links to useful resources and social media platforms within which support and advice can be found/shared.

What is the SWT?
Originally known as the Brecon Beacons Traverse, this 24-hour challenge involves 72 miles and some 17000 feet of ascent.   It was launched in 1984 having been completed by Derek Fisher and Andy Lewsley the year before in 21:24 hrs.

It traverses 31 summits in the Carmathen Fan, Fforest Fawr, Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheinog) and Black Mountains areas.  The mountains selected are from the 2000 foot summit tables compiled by George Bridge in his book - The Mountains of England and Wales (see tables here).

The object is to visit the 31 two thousand foot summits listed on 'The Route' page.
