Switch Simulator (Junos and IOS)

The Switch Simulator software is a software tool that enables candidates to work on Cisco/Juniper switches in a stand alone virtual lab environment. Several labs have been made available for practice in the lab manual for both Cisco and Juniper switches. Both Command Line Interface (CLI) mode and Graphical User Interface (GUI) mode are available. Domains covered in the labs include

1. Basic IP address configuration of switches

2. VLAN, VTP configurations

3. STP configuration and troubleshooting

The switch simulators provide a simulated environment, where you can configure a switch. There are two Simulators provided: Cisco switch simulator and Juniper Switch Simulator.

Switch Simulator features

1. Lab exercises provided for practice

2. Switch console and GUI simulator for both Cisco® and Juniper® switches

3. 100+ switch commands supported

4. Detailed Lab Manual provided for both console and GUI labs

5. Detailed help files enabling step by step experimentation.

6. The demo version is limited to a fewer labs, and upto global configuration mode is supported in demo version.

7. Support short form commands in IOS simulator.

8. Backup and restore Lab configuration

9. Bookmarking individual Labs.

10. Bookmarking all labs under selected section.

11. Saving and reloading half completed labs

12. Resetting individual and all labs to default.

13. Marking not attempted, not completed and completed labs in different color for easy identification.

Switch Simulator main window

Above screenshot shows the Switch Simulator main window , features of various navigation buttons are explained below.

1. Cisco Switch Simulator (Console based): By clicking this button will open cisco switch simulator console based default lab as shown in the below screenshot.

Note: Simulator of the Cisco ® switch IOS, where a limited set of switch commands are supported. You can work with those supported commands in a similar manner as that of the actual switch.

2. Juniper Switch Simulator (console based): Simulator of the Juniper Switch, where a limited set of router and switch commands are supported. You can work with those supported commands in a similar manner as that of the actual switch. However, please note that this is a learning tool and it has limitations.

3. Cisco Switch Simulator (GUI based): In cisco switch simulator GUI window , various navigation panes are provided to configure the device in GUI environment. Below is the screenshot of the Cisco Switch Simulator GUI based.

4. Juniper Switch Simulator (GUI based): Juniper switch simulator GUI window. Various navigation panes are provided to configure the device in GUI environment. Below is the screenshot of the Below is the screenshot of the Juniper switch simulator GUI.

5. Lab Exercises: Lab manual GUI and console for juniper and cisco switchsim provided. User can practice the lab exercises provided in the lab manual. Instructions provided in the manual will guide you to execute the lab. Below is screenshot of the Console based Lab Exercises.

Available labs are listed on the left pane , to execute or run any of these labs left click on the particular lab a View and load lab window appears as shown in the below fig.

View Lab: This button allows you to view the particular lab in Lab Manual.

Load Lab: This button allows you to load a selected lab in the simulator where you can configure the devices and verify the output.

Completed lab will be marked as green in left navigation pane and half completed lab is marked as orange color and not attempted lab is marked as black color , bookmarked lab is marked in bold as shown in below fig.
