Mandatory College Meal Plans Are Gift Cards That Expire...
But what if students could sell their extra meals before expiration?
SwipeShare is developing a mobile application that helps college students in need of meals connect with students with extra meals via an automated marketplace.
This idea applies the seminal research of Ritvik Kharkar who analyzed UCLA's "Black Market Meal Swipe network". SwipeShare seeks to enhance this "Black Market" in universities across the USA to minimize monopolistic plans, save students money, and reduce waste.
Students with x-tra prepaid meals that expire unless used/eaten can use the SwipeShare IOS app to resell their pre-purchased swipes to students willing to buy the swipes at a reduced price.
SwipeShare works in a 3 step process:
1. The buyer student selects their order in SwipeShare which is shared with the seller
2. The seller student orders the order for pickup from the university meal provider using sellers meal swipe(s) and lets the buyer student know when order is ready for pickup
3. The buyer picks up the order. The buyer is charged a flat rate (less than buying a new meal wholesale) say $5. The app get a 5% fee (.25) and the seller gets the difference ($4.75).
