Top Swimming Pool Maintenance Tips
Preventative maintenance is crucial in ensuring that you get the most out of anything. Just like you would do on your home or car, maintenance will help reduce repair cost on your pool. By following these simple swimming pool maintenance tips, you will be able to save time, money, and hassle. These tips are very simple to execute and all they need is a matter of making them a habit.
Below are tips for keeping you swimming pool healthy, sparkling clean, and ready:
Check pool chemistry
You should do this at least once or twice a week during summer and once every 1 to 2 weeks in the winter. The ideal pH to maintain here is between 7.2 and 7.8. Maintaining a lower pH scale means that your pool will need less chlorine. The logic behind this is a rise in pH levels makes chlorine less and less active. Practicing good pH control means you will need to spend less chlorine.
Clean out skimmer baskets
This should be done on a weekly basis, or according to the current environmental conditions. The skimmer is a piece of equipment installed in the side of the pool. This device works to protect the pool water from debris and other contaminants. If the skimmer is ineffective, it won't be able to skim off enough debris, therefore, you will end up with a dirty pool. Therefore, always keep the skimmer cleaned up at all times.
Clean the hair and lint pot
This is locates on the front area of the pool pump. These should be done after every two weeks or as needed. To do this turn the pump off and release pressure from the system. The hair and lint pot is a basket installed inside the clear glass of the pool's pump. However, there are some types of pools where you do not need to do this. Instead, they will clean out the leaf basket or debris catcher. We recommend that you use a leaf trapper or a debris removal system to do this.
Check the water level
Check the water level and ensure that it is not too high or too low. It needs to be exactly at the center level of the skimmer or tile for optimal performance or results. If the water is too high, the door of the skimmer will not work properly, and if it's too low, the pump will run dry and burn up.
Check inline chlorinator or deck chlorinator if you have one of these. Doing this is necessary in order to ensure that the proper chlorine tablet levels are maintained and that it is not clogging.
Preventative maintenance will help you enjoy the most out of your swimming pool. Therefore, make sure you do it regularly.
