The Schedule

The event is broken into two parts to allow for people of all ages and abilities to get involved and attend the event!

Traditional Swim-a-thon

7:30-9:30am

In the morning, from 7:30 am - 9:30 am,  there will be the “traditional” swim-a-thon. This is where participants swim continuously to see how many laps they can do. Participants can gain pledges (such as $1 a lap), where the further they swim the more money that they raise. Pledges can come from anyone in the community. Then, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, there will be a community event. This is geared towards families, as there will be fun games and relays; however, anyone is welcome. The pool has noodles and bubbles(flotation devices) that will be provided to those who need them. There will be 3+ certified lifeguards who will be volunteering their time for this event. The lifeguards will be able to elect if they require a certain participant to use flotation if they feel it is necessary. There are 30 minutes between the first event ending and the second event starting. This will limit the amount of commotion between people leaving the first event and people arriving for the second event.

For the first event (traditional swim-a-thon), the lane lines will be divided by speed level. The Greely Pool has five lanes: one “slow” lane, two “moderate” lanes, and two “fast” lanes. Dividing this up will help ensure that the event runs smoothly. There will be two one-hour blocks (7:30-8:30 and 8:30-9:30) that people can sign up for. Participants will have the option to sign up for both blocks if they desire.

All participants who raise over $150 will receive an event t-shirt. There is also a raffle that people can enter for a variety of prizes. A prize will be awarded to the top three fundraisers.

Community Event

10am-12pm

There will first be a “swim test” for anyone under the age of 8, to ensure the safety of all swimmers. Swimmers who do not pass the swim test must swim with a floatation device and a parent/guardian over the age of 18. However, noodles and bubbles will also be provided for anyone who wants one–to ensure everyone is comfortable and safe. The head lifeguard (Brady Hale) will oversee the swim tests. At any point, he can make the decision that someone can not participate due to safety concerns (behavioral or swimming).

Then there will be a variety of relays/games that people can sign up for, such as, the pool noodle relay, spin drill relay, dolphin dive relay, and many more. Games include sharks and minnows, a treasure hunt, and a safe obstacle course. All participants who raise over $150 will receive an event t-shirt. There is also a raffle that people can enter for a variety of prizes. A prize will be awarded to the top three fundraisers.
