All About Us
Swiffy Stitches is a creative collaboration between myself and my five year old Silver Marten rabbit named Swiffy.
Rabbits love sitting beside their owners quietly on the floor and consider this a fabulous way to spend time. After adopting Swiffy, I tried to spend as much time as possible sitting on the floor to keep her company. I tried reading, but she loved to eat the books in my hand. I picked up cross-stitching, an art form taught to me in my childhood, and it quickly became apparent that she was keen on supervising and inspecting every piece of art I worked on.
Swiffy and I started creating pixel art based on our favourite vintage video games, and selling these pieces at a local artist market, that's how Swiffy Stitches was born.
My pieces are pixel art created with cross-stitch and fuse plastic beads. We originally focused on 8bit and 16bit video game eras. They feature characters from some of the biggest franchises, for example: Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Mega Man. Since we began creating our pixel art pieces, we have branched out to include pop culture movies and tv shows, motivational and sarcastic quotes, and family portraits.
Cross-stitching seems simple, but this art form takes skill and time. Small pieces take approximately 8 hours to create and larger pieces 20 or more hours. It is rewarding to see modern designs created by this ancient art form, the first examples of which can be found from 500AD in Egyptian tombs. Now, 1500 years later reemerging in popularity.
Completed pieces are on the shelves at Markets Ontario's Pickering location. Please inquire for custom orders. We can create custom completed pieces as well as patterns for cross-stitch and plastic fuse bead pieces.

Long Bio:
Swiffy Stitches is a passion project by a local artist, combining their love for vintage video game characters, pop culture references and pixel art. Pieces are designed and created using specialized software and cross-stitching skills honed over decades. The majority of pieces created are based on the highly popular Super Mario Bros. characters from the 80's and 90's. A variety of other vintage video game characters, as well as retro and modern pop culture characters and quotes are always in development. Each piece is created under the watchful eye of Swiffy Bunny, an adopted five year old Silver Marten rabbit that wants nothing more than to quietly spend time on the floor with her people while they cross-stich.
