Hi, my name is Nicole and I’m the baker behind Sweet Maison Bakery. I’m a mom of 4 young kids, including twins, and like so many people I never really baked before the pandemic. During lockdown I started baking out of necessity and slowly got into sourdough after someone gave me some of their starter. (The sourdough community is amazing!)
After many failures things started clicking and I started baking more and more. A friend pushed me to start selling my bread and I was so nervous my first bread for sale flopped. However I tried again the next day and nailed it. Fast forward a year and l’ve learned so much, expanded my skills, and am utterly in love with it. It’s not always easy and sometimes things don't work which is extremely frustreating, but it fulfills me.
So about the name, back in 2014 my husband and I moved to Paris, France with our 4 kids. We wanted to live overseas somewhere to broaden our children’s minds, expose them to other cultures and help make them more open minded individuals. In the end it changed all of us and for the better.
We choose Paris, well in all honesty because of the food and the architecture. I mean have you had French butter? I rest my case. We had planned to live there for a year but ended up staying for 2 as none of us wanted to leave. That city stole my heart and helped me heal after losing my father to cancer. In fact I still think of it as my home. So when it came to naming my new baking business I wanted to tie in my love of France, especially since that’s where my mind was opened to amazing pastries and breads. And that’s when Sweet Maison Bakery was born (maison is French for house). Voilà!
Food is such a central part of every culture, celebration, and gathering and I'm honored to be a small part of that.
Bon Appétit!
