Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences
Class overview
My goal for you for this class is to gain confidence in yourself as well as to know and understand the basics of statistical analysis
This course is entirely online. However, you will have the opportunity each week to attend a live 'study session' where I will answer questions posed in the discussions. Although the course is online, it is not self-paced. You will have readings and homework assignments every week. Statistics is one of those classes where you only learn by doing so you will be given plenty of opportunity for 'doing.'
Each week will be identified by a new module that will introduce new topics and concepts. New Modules begin on Monday.
To be successful in this course, you MUST keep up- faithfully do the readings and assignments each week. Additionally, attend all the live sessions, especially if you are struggling with a particular concept or idea. If you do this, I promise, you can succeed.
I am Dr. Joye Swan. I am an Applied Social Psychologist and, although I have a PhD in psychology, I am not a therapist. I am a behavioral scientist. My research looks into sexual beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes and how they impact individuals, relationships, and society. I use statistics to help me study these constructs to inform the application of this knowledge to people and culture.
Outside of psychology, I am a parent (4 grown children), happily married, and enjoy house renovating, sports- both playing and watching (My favorite teams are the Dodgers, LA Kings, and the Texas Longhorns (my alma mater- hook 'em!) and my 4-legged child, Charlotte.
I will provide you with a clear, organized course that is designed to ensure you meet our course outcomes in a meaningful manner.
