Caltech Letters is a student-led organization which helps Caltech scientists write about their work in a way that is understandable for a non-expert audience. This group consists of editors and artists which help write articles and design cover art for published pieces.
In this article, author and PhD student Cora Went argues that scientific funding from fossil fuel polluters won’t solve the climate crisis. My work as the cover artist was to read her article and brainstorm art ideas with the editor and writer. I created this piece while envisioning climate change, forest fires, gas stoves, and paper money. Texture was central to my work, and I included burnt edges, creased paper, and a smoky forest.

Author and PhD student Lev Tsypin argues that "a non-utilitarian ethic requires reckoning with past harm done." This piece was inspired by the shadow a person casts onto a wall as a metaphor for the ethical decisions made when accepting research funding.
