Soft or inferential sensors are predictive models or software built to estimate hard-to-measure process qualities. They can be applied to solve many different problems in industrial systems, including the lack of data at the required frequency, monitoring process conditions and reconciling data from multiple different measurement devices.
Due to the complexity of the industrial processes, we particularly focus our attention on data-driven soft-sensors, which is a black-box model, based only on measurements of the data collected in the process.
