A few things….
Email is the best way to contact your teacher. We will do our best to return emails within 24 hours on school days
We love to celebrate birthdays, but without food. Please no birthday treats!
Please ensure your child brings a healthy snack and a water bottle daily.
We are excited to start this new adventure with your child. Please review the following important information and “Nuts and Bolts” of 3rd Grade.
Crew: Crew is a time for students to build relationships, practice mindfulness, and engage in activities that promote problem solving. We will cover several crew topics throughout the year that are centered around the SVE habits of character. Our goal is for your child to be practicing these skills not just in crew, but in all subject areas and throughout our community.
Math: Envision- This consists of Student textbooks and Workbooks that work together, as well as additional at home practice. At school, your child will participate in various activities to develop a deeper understanding.
Building problem-solving skills and strategies
Using models to solve real-world problems involving the four operations
Making and interpreting data from bar graphs
Identifying fractions of a set
Finding angles and identifying lines
Understanding area and perimeter of figures
Literacy: Wonders - An evidence-based K–5 ELA program that empowers students to take an active role in learning and exploration. Your students will enjoy unparalleled opportunities to express and assess themselves through reading, writing, and speaking. They will encounter the right content at the right moment in their learning journey to promote strong educational outcomes for all. Wonders is grounded in the Science of Reading and is clear about what matters in early literacy instruction: phonological awareness, phonics and word recognition, fluency, vocabulary and oral language comprehension, and text comprehension.
Social Studies and Science-
In science and social studies, students will become experts on several topics such as geography, climate and weather-related hazards, patterns of motion, life cycles, people of the past, civics, consumer awareness and financial literacy. Our crew will then apply these concepts to the world around us today. Many of our concepts will be integrated through our literacy modules as well. We will use StemScopes and Discovery Education to enhance student learning of science and social studies concepts.
Arrival and Dismissal-
Soft Start begins at 8:25. If your child needs to be dropped off before this, please contact our BASE program. It is imperative that your child is here by 8:35 for the beginning of our day! Starting our day on time and with our whole crew sets the tone for the day. School is out at 3:30. We will exit on the west side of the building by the swings each day. If you child will be absent please contact the school office or use the email: sveattendance@dcsdk12.org
Classroom Crew Norms- These are set and created by our class. These are essential to be followed by each and everyday for the learning and safety of everyone in the classroom. Please ask your child about these norms and his/her progress on following these norms. I encourage constant reflection of behavior at home and at school so we can create a positive classroom culture.
