This is a true story about a young girl’s fight for the right to education. The subject was interesting and made me think about my own privilege and the basic rights people in other places lack.

There is never a dull moment, and there is always a challenge for the protagonist. The book is also very descriptive, so the reader can easily visualize the story that unfolds.
Farenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury Genre: science fiction. Recommended by Spencer Phillips. Why you'll love it: I love this book because of its storyline. The story of Guy Montag and his adventure is simply incredible. The parallels to the current state of our world coming from a 50-year-old novel are uncanny. It’s a must-read for everyone.

Internment, by Samira Ahmed. Genre: dystopian fiction. Recommend by Brynn Slattery. Why you’ll love it: This book is about a girl named Layla Amin who gets taken to an internment camp. She always stands up for what she believes in and never gives up. If you like books about the Holocaust, it’s similar but not as gruesome. Ahmed also does an amazing job of bringing all the characters to life and making hooks that pull you in.

Salt to the Sea, by Ruta Sepetys. Genre: historical fiction. Recommended by Riley Dickman. Why you'll love it: This book explores a disaster deadlier than the Titanic. It takes place during WWII and examines the war from the perspective of many different characters. I loved the fast-moving plot and many twists and turns. This seldom known tragedy is interesting, and the many characters weave a complex story about wartime.

If I Stay, by Gayle Forman. Genre: fiction. Recommended by Lucy Mahoney. Why you'll love it: This book is about 17-year-old Mia, whose family dies in a horrible crash that leaves her in a coma. Throughout the book, she reluctantly decides whether she’ll stay on earth or go to heaven with her family. This book takes you on a thrilling and sad journey told from Mia’s perspective, while forcing the reader to empathize with Mia and her situation.
Ballplayer, by Chipper Jones. Genre: biography. Recommended by Sumner Estes. Why you'll love it: This book is about Chipper Jones’ baseball career and his life. It mainly focuses on how Chipper became the number one draft pick in 1989. You will like this book if you like baseball and biography.
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertalli. Genre: fiction. Recommended by Colten Hitchcock. Why you'll love it: In this book, there is a lot of funny and relatable humor that really makes me feel like the characters in the book are real people. It also has a compelling plot with characters that have many different layers that are revealed as the book goes on. This book also kept me guessing as to who Blue is, and the author does really well with keeping it secret, so the ending is very surprising.

It’s inspirational and shows that you should always speak up for what you believe in. The book is action-packed and was hard for me to put down at times!

From the unique setting, to the interesting characters, there is so much to recommend about this book! Finally, even though much of this book is science fiction, the powerful details bring the story to life and seem so realistic.
The Best We Could Do, by Thi Bui. Genre: historical nonfiction. Recommended by Quincy Stone. Why you'll love it: This book walks us through the treacherous journey of a young family emigrating from Communist North Vietnam to the U.S. It is a very personal account of the author’s upbringing and the relationship she has with her parents. It is a book that brings about a spiral of emotions that come from a partly war-torn childhood.
One of Us Is Lying, by Karen M. McManus. Genre: murder mystery/fiction. Recommended by Katrina Strain. Why you'll love it: This book shows the struggle of four kids avoiding jail time for a crime they didn’t commit. The four kids learn, make mistakes, grow closer, and have to trust random kids from detention. All the plot twists and cliff hangers make this book nearly impossible to put down.
Silence, by Natasha Preston. Genre: realistic fiction. Recommended by Charley Taisch. Why you'll love it: This book is a constant page turner. It is a long book, but you will never want to put it down, and it teaches a good lesson.
I Am Malala, by Malala Yousafzai. Genre: autobiography. Recommended by Anthony Tejada. Why you'll love it: I love this book because it takes you into the life of a girl Malala who stands up for girls’ rights to education, and it shares her journey. It inspires you to always take action when you know something is wrong, and it models how to be a powerful advocate.
Tweak, by Nic Scheff. Genre: autobiography. Recommended by Sophia Terebilo. Why you'll love it: I loved Tweak because it gave me a very different perspective on addiction, and instead of saying that addiction is bad, it showed the reader why it was bad. I also appreciating reading this true story of the author’s suffering with methamphetamines and then overcoming his addiction.
A Corner of the Universe, by Ann M. Martin. Genre: fiction. Recommended by Avery Tirva. Why you'll love it: This story takes you into the mind of a twelve-year-old girl who is meeting her uncle for the first time. Her uncle has a mental disability, and they go through a lot together throughout the course of the book. This story is very heartfelt, funny, and engrossing.
Suicide Notes, by Michael Thomas Ford. Genre: realistic fiction. Recommended by Aidan Walsh. Why you'll love it: You’ll love this book because it teaches many good lessons: Jeff learns that life isn’t so bad after all, and that you should always look on the bright side of everything. Remember, be honest but not too honest. The book will keep you wanting to read on without putting it down.
