About Me

Sydney Vandersteeg

I am a senior at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) studying health services management and minoring in epidemiology. I am a member of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority Inc. where our philanthropy is combating violence against women. I also ran competitively for IUPUI's women's' cross country team. I have always had an interest in health care and want to make a meaningful difference in peoples lives. When I started college, I did not have a clear idea of a career path. I decided I want to work in healthcare but realized I do not want to directly treat patients. I found out I could still make a difference in patients' lives through health services management. Disease was also an interesting topic to me, and I wanted to learn more about how it effects the community around me and myself. Studying health services management and epidemiology has given me a unique perspective on healthcare. I'm happy to say I'm currently an intern at ProCare Network, where I'm in a position that encompasses my values and impacts people in a positive way.

Professional Skills and Strengths

I have experience in the service industry, as I hold the title of concierge at the IU Health hospitals now. I have also been a concierge at A Place To Float in Indianapolis, IN, where I greeted clients, gave facility tours to peak customer interest and sell memberships, along with use effective communication in person and over the phone to schedule appointments and answer questions about our services. I also use these skills now in my internship at ProCare. I have also been an associate in the retail industry at HomeGoods and Bath & Body Works. Working in these positions has given me valuable knowledge about customer service and how to work effectively in a team to reach established sales goals.
