Instrumental Music is an OPTIONAL enrichment program that students start in 4th grade.
Students choose their instrument at the end of 3rd grade and start playing during the first month of 4th grade.
No music background is needed.
There are two types of commitments in the instrumental music program:
Student Commitment
Parent/Guardian Commitment
Students must commit to:
Time commitment:
Attending weekly pull-out lessons on a rotating basis.
Practicing 10 minutes a day, every day.
Attending full group rehearsals starting in January.
Effort commitment:
Always try your best.
Ask questions when you do not understand.
Make an effort to commit to the time commitment.
Parent/Guardians must commit to:
Obtaining an instrument.
Reinforcing the 10-minute a day practice schedule.
Fall of 4th grade:
Students have one 30-minute lesson each week on a rotating basis.
Lesson schedule is sent home monthly.
Text message reminders are sent the night before a lesson as a reminder.
Winter/Spring of 4th grade:
Students will continue with one 30-minute lesson each week.
Add in one 35-minute full group rehearsal. Band instruments play with band instruments and string instruments play with string instruments. This is where we learn to play together and work on our concert music.
Full Group generally happens during recess in 4th grade, but not always.

Once registration closes, we will meet with each musician and make sure the instrument they chose is a good fit for them. Once the fitting is done, we will send home an email with directions on how to obtain an instrument through our music vendors.
These three instruments are available for students to audition for once they have completed one full year of band.
To earn an audition for one of these instruments, students must meet all of the following criteria:
Have excellent lesson and full group attendance.
Made adequate progress on their current instrument.
Be able to fluently read music on their current instrument.
Head on over to the "Register Your Musician" page and get them signed up! We will send more info home after we have fitted your musician later in the school year.
