I study how people’s social relationships influence how individuals perceive inequality and unequal social groups. I use a variety of methodological approaches, including secondary data analysis, as well as correlational, experimental, and meta-analytic methods.
Inequality between certain groups is sometimes perceived as less acceptable (e.g., race groups) than for other groups (e.g., occupations).
Do these differences shape the degree of inequality that liberals and conservatives perceive to exist?
People sometimes have interactions with individuals from groups different to their own groups (e.g., lower-class individuals interacting with upper-class individuals).
Do these interactions communicate ideas about justice that are prevalent within groups?
Do these interactions shape stereotypes about groups unequal in power and status?
Are lower-class individuals more interdependent than upper-class individuals?
How do these differences affect their views around justice?
