Many people find this hard to believe, but against the odds I decided to leave my career as a hairdresser to become an academic.
I am a recent PhD graduate in Law from the University of Exeter, where I also completed both an undergraduate degree in Law and a Master’s in Law and Social Research. My doctoral research evaluates the effectiveness of recent government reforms to criminal legal aid in increasing the number of younger practitioners, using the Theory of Planned Behaviour as a framework.
With a strong academic background and a keen interest in criminal defence. My research interests include:
Criminal legal aid
Criminal defence
Criminal law
The legal profession
Behavioural science
Behavioural change
Access to justice
The Behavioural Change Wheel
Legal profession career choice
I am developing a research plan for a project that will design and evaluate a behaviourally informed justice system intervention, grounded in the Behaviour Change Wheel framework, to increase the number of younger solicitors specialising in Criminal Legal Aid in England and Wales. The aim is to strengthen workforce sustainability, enhance access to justice, and promote greater age diversity within the profession.
