A piece for two vibraphones placed on opposite sides of the room. Each player is required to have their vibraphone plugged in with the motors working. Mallets should be medium hard. Both should have a bass bow or equivalent on a trap stand near/beside the instrument. Both need one plastic or rubber mallet with a rattan shaft on the trap for pitch bending.
The progenitor marks the end of the of a star, allowing room for newer and brighter stars to take its place. This piece is dedicated to my grand mother, Henny Maringka. You were one of the brightest stars I knew. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and time together.
For 2 percussionists, each holding two lighters, one per hand, or 4 percussionists, one lighter per person.
Vices is meant to represent the difficulty of life. As the piece progresses, the rhythms get more complicated. At the end of the piece, player one gives in and lights a cigarette, effectively giving into their 'vices'.
