On November 27, the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón hosted the XIII Workshop on Sustainable Chemistry. The event focused on key concepts in sustainable chemistry, including green chemistry approaches, the efficient optimization of chemical reactions, advances in catalysis for synthetic fuels, and the development of sustainable ingredients for industrial applications such as aromas and fragrances.
This workshop provided a platform for sharing innovative strategies and fostering collaboration to address global sustainability challenges through chemistry.

On December 1, the XII Workshop on Sustainable Chemistry was held at the Jaume I University. This workshop is aimed especially at students of the interuniversity master's degree on sustainable chemistry, where various topics were discussed such as catalysis, the use of hydrogen as sustainable energy, and the plastic sector and healthcare activity from a sustainable point of view.

Tecnologías (bio)catalíticas verdes en líquidos iónicos para la economía circular de los desechos de espuma de poliuretano de la industria de colchones (Green4PUFW)
Este proyecto, subvencionado por la Agencia Estatal de Investigación (TED2021-129626B-C22) y coordinado entre la Universitat Jaume I y la Universidad de Murcia, tiene como objetivo resolver la limitación de la tecnología actual mediante la aplicación de diferentes herramientas novedosas basadas en líquidos iónicos (ILs), MetalOrganic Frameworks (MOFs) y tecnologías de (bio)catalizadores para llevar a cabo la despolimerización selectiva de desechos de espumas de poliuretano (PUFWs) en sus unidades monoméricas (por ejemplo, poliol y diaminas) en condiciones suaves, que luego se reutilizarán como materia prima para la síntesis de nuevos PUFs, de acuerdo con las reglas de la economía circular. El proyecto no solo proporcionará nuevas plataformas multicatalíticas para este propósito, sino que también diseñará y desarrollará las soluciones tecnológicas correspondientes para la separación y recuperación de los sistemas catalíticos basados en ILs.

The 11th Workshop on Sustainable Chemistry has been held at the Doctoral School of Jaume I University, where the importance of sustainable chemistry in the development of processes has been highlighted, both at an academic and industrial level.
International academic speakers have participated, such as Professor Andrew C. Marr from Queen's University Belfast and Professor Fabio Aricò from the Università Ca'Foscari Venezia, and business research speakers, such as Juan A. Rincón from Eli Lilly and Company (Madrid) and Carmina Alfonso from Zchimmer & Schwarz Spain.

One of these projects is the study of "New tools in green chemistry for the development of sustainable (bio)catalytic processes for the recovery of CO₂ and the synthesis of compounds with high added value" (Tools4Green) led by the researchers Eduardo García-Verdugo Cepeda and Belén Altava Benito from the Sustainable and Supramolecular Chemistry group of the UJI and Professor Lozano of the Sustainable Chemistry-SC group of the University of Murcia, focuses on the design and application of new advanced green tools, which include the use of active and stable chemo and biocatalysts in intelligent systems , where the use of volatile organic solvents will be avoided at all times, to move towards more efficient and sustainable chemical processes, compatible with environmental awareness.

The Sustainable and Supramolecular group, together with Nobel Laureate Jean-Marie Lehn, has managed to describe the dynamic covalent self-assembly —assisted by water— of novel doubly chiral pseudopeptide macrobicyclic molecular cages, with a very efficient self-selection of homochirality.
