Geography Stage 5
How to use this site:
Students examine the physical characteristics and productivity of biomes. This site provides a variety of resources which cover the 4 key inquiry questions found under the sustainable biomes syllabus heading, alongside some key geography skills resources.
Throughout the Sustainable Biomes topic, stage 5 students examine the physical characteristics and productivity of biomes and analyse the impact humans have on biomes in an effort to produce food and increase agricultural yields (NESA, 2015). This site provides a range of resources addressing the key inquiry questions apart of the syllabus topic (NESA, 2015) which engage students in inquiry-based learning.
This site aims to provide an easy access resource point for teachers of stage 5 sustainable biomes classes. It provides a variety of resources including introductory videos, links to websites which provide further teaching tools and images to develop and improve students’ geography skills such as map reading and analysis of graphs and statistics.
The resources provided aim to address a range of aspects apart of the biomes topic, relating content to Australian businesses like Woolworths and examining climate data on the Australian Governments Bureau of Meteorology website, making content relevant to students. Alongside Australian based sources, this site includes investigative sources from Oxfam looking at overpopulation and the food security and impacts of climate change in places like Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea.
Overall, this site aims to provide a range of sources teachers can use to develop and improve their lessons and show different ways to address syllabus outcomes to maintain an engaging classroom for students.
