Sustainability continuous to be an important concern for HCI. In this workshop, we aim to bring into conversation diverse scholars and theories of sustainability, in particular the sustainable HCI community interested in positively impacting sustainability goals through and in their work, and community-based participatory design and digital civics researchers concerned about the sustainability or longevity of their work.
We invite researchers and practitioners from DIS, HCI and PD and related disciplines who have in the past worked or are currently working on sustainability topics to join forces to reflect on their experiences, discuss sustainability frameworks and their application in HCI, and develop a sustainability roadmap to guide our work to be socially relevant long-term.
Among other topics, we are interested in:
applications of diverse sustainability frameworks in HCI (e.g., Triple Bottom Line, Circles of Sustainability, Doughnut Economics, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, or specific philosophies, such as permaculture)
sustainability beyond consumption and the consumer
complexity and collaboration on sustainability
equity, power, and knowledge systems in HCI research
long-term use, maintenance, scaling, and impact
funding and financial viability
evaluation metrics and their limits
