SLT │ PhD Candidate │ Lecturer
Welcome! I'm Susie, a paediatric SLT carrying out PhD research in speech sound disorders and lecturer at Queen Margaret University
I am investigating how we classify children’s speech sound disorders using data from ultrasound tongue imaging. My project engages with speech data in three different ways:
impressionistic analysis of ultrasound tongue curves
quantitative measurement of the same tongue curves
a perceptual experiment using a visual analogue scale for SLTs to rate how close to the target the spoken sounds are.
The findings will support Speech and Language Therapists in the analysis and outcome measurement of unresolved speech sound errors.
🪘☀️🥁Drumming in the sunshine!🥁☀️🪘
Time away from work is also important. I'm part of The Edinburgh Samba School (TESS) and this summer we have lots of fun gigs to play - gala days, Edinburgh Pride, Porty Pride, the Edinburgh Festival Carnival and the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival Carnival.
