Suryanarayana Sankagiri

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Information and Communication Sciences at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland.                                    I work in the Information and Network Dynamics (INDY1) group                     led by Prof. Matthias Grossglauser

I obtained by Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign            in 2022. I was supervised by Prof. Bruce Hajek and was a member of the Coordinated Science Lab.

My current research centers around discrete choice models. These are probabilistic models that describe how human beings make choices when presented with a range of options in any given context. In particular, I am studying recommendation systems that learn from choice data. I am also interested in developing new models of how humans make choices in a variety of contexts.

During my Ph.D., I worked on blockchains, studying them from a theoretical point of view. I worked on analyzing their security under adverse network conditions as well as developing protocols that can help them function more efficiently.

More broadly, I am interested in modelling, designing, and analyzing engineering systems using tools from probability, networks, and algorithms. I enjoy learning new theoretical concepts and explaining what I know to others.
