Vision Fulfilled
I was once sitting in an RA survivor support group listening to each survivor share what was on their heart. They shared their struggles, their victories and the many things they were trying to process concerning their trauma. I also heard many of them share how they wished their therapists would understand certain things about their abuse, their DID, the psychological programs they were dealing with daily, and they expressed how they were sick of having to teach their therapists how to help them.
It’s then, that I saw what a great opportunity it would be for both therapists and survivors to come together in a support group setting, and for the therapists to be a “fly on the wall” so to speak, and to learn from us as we openly interact with each other. What an amazing “living classroom” it would be! Not only would survivors be able to come out of isolation and meet with other survivors of extreme ritual abuse and support one another, but at the same time they would become teachers to therapists, helping them to help survivors in ways that they wouldn’t have otherwise learned.
Textbooks do not cover topics of RA/MC and barely acknowledge the existence of DID. Social media has both good and sensationalistic coverage, but it confuses and often paints survivors as freaks in a freak show. There are books, articles and websites, and while some are truly excellent, others also confuse, and even bring damage to us.
But when handled carefully, a group comprising of survivors and therapists together can become an asset to every therapist who cares about those who so desperately need the help, the kindness and compassion, the knowledge, and the skill of a good therapist.
And this is the birth of Survivors Speak Truth.
It is my hope and prayer that therapists everywhere, no matter how experienced they are, who care about DID/RA/MC survivors, will see this as a “golden opportunity” to expand their awareness, knowledge, skills, and their heart on behalf of those of us who have suffered such great atrocities.
And to those therapists who have humbly joined us, our gratitude is overflowing that you care so much to put this time aside and learn from us. Thank you.
And, most especially, thank you to each and every brave warrior-survivor who is willing to do this. You are all heroes! You are the strongest people on earth! May you all find support and validation as we come together and openly break our silence and find healing.
Special note: I want to extend a special thanks to Jean Riseman and Rivers from the RA/MC Grassroots Collective for their invaluable assistance in helping to guide this group into existence. As well as Mandie, who worked hard alongside me to put this together, and for the wisdom and support I received from Dr's. Sarah and Ellen.
