Sharing Data

The final step to survive the datapocalypse is to share your data. On this page you will learn how to create visuals based on your data, how to make sure that all of your hard work is not tampered with when you share your data, and two options for sharing data beyond the traditional share a Google Doc feature.

The explore feature allows you to quickly analyze your data. This is a great feature for quick charts.

Steps:

1. Highlight the range of the data you want to explore.
2. Click on the explore button in the bottom right corner.

If you want to be more specific with what data you are visualizing you can create a chart. If you are not sure what type of chart you should create Google Sheets will give you chart recommendations based off your data.

Steps:

2. Click on insert in the menu and then chart.
3. Select the type of chart you want to insert. You can customize your chart to fit your needs.

One of the most frustrating parts of sharing a collaborative spreadsheet is having someone delete or modify a cell. To prevent this from happening you can protect a sheet or a range.

Steps:

1. Click on Data and then Protected sheets and ranges.
2. This will open up a side menu.
3. Click on add sheet or range.
4. Give your protected sheet or range a name.
5. Select either sheet or range.
6. Set permissions. If you choose Custom you can manually add people that still have access to the sheet or range.

Publishing your document makes the document visible to anyone on the web. This feature is helpful for when you want to share your data but don’t want to share the spreadsheet.

Steps:

1. Click on file and then Publish to the Web.
2. Make sure you have selected Link and not Embed.
3. Choose what you will publish the to the web. You can publish the entire document or specific sheets.
4. Choose what type of file your published document will be.
5. Click on the blue Publish button.
6. This will give you a link that you can use share for others to access your published sheet.

This feature allows you to place an interactive copy of the spreadsheet on a webpage.

Steps:

1. Click on file and then Publish to the Web.
2. Make sure you have selected Embed and not Link.
3. Choose what you will publish the to the web. You can publish the entire document or specific sheets.
4. Click on the blue Publish button.
5. This will give you the embed code that you can use to include your sheet on a website.
