Providing the appropriate special needs services within the state mandated time frame guidelines, presents to be a challenge for child study teams during Covid-19.

The role of school psychologists consists of: observing students behaviors, assessing students cognitive and social-emotional abilities, meeting with teachers and parents to discuss test results, to create individual education plans, provide therapy, and report writing to document all activities performed. These actions are to be carried out in a systematic way, following specific time frame guidelines, in order to be in compliance of the state standardized special need laws.

Most of the duties performed by school psychologists involve direct contact with children and families. In consideration of the stay at home policy being mandated throughout the nation, state education departments had to devise a plan of execution involving compliance.

- Contacting parents via telephone, email, or classroom apps (if contact information is not updated with the school's main office.)
- A child's home may not have the adequate technology to communicate with school( if child lacks computers, lap tops, chrome books, etc.. )
- Being unable to administer an assessment
- Being unable to ensure a conducive and private area for therapy
- Meeting Compliance on IEP's

The New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Fiscal and Data Services, is required to provide to the United States Department of Education, on an annual basis, a list of rules, regulations and policies that are state-imposed required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or federal regulations. The Department must include the list with its annual application for federal funding. The Department is also required to inform all Local Education Agencies of such state-imposed rules, regulations and policies.
