How to decide if these procedures are right for you?
Dark circles, wrinkles or drooping eyelids are the classic signs that time and age leave on our face, giving a tired and tired look. Some people, on the other hand, may have pronounced dark circles or excess skin on the eyelids that make their eyes dull due to congenital causes or personal predisposition even at a young age.
Many patients seek a solution to these blemishes through blepharoplasty, to eliminate excess skin from the upper eyelids, eliminate the accumulation of fat and improve the appearance of the bags under the eyes. However, many people prefer to avoid undergoing invasive surgery. And it is precisely for this reason that thanks to technological advances in the field of Aesthetic Medicine, it is now possible to perform blepharoplasty also with different and non-invasive techniques, which translate into results that are still effective and with shorter recovery times compared to traditional surgery.
Most people think of the non-surgical eyelid lift only for aesthetic reasons. In fact, lifting in this area of the face can help us brighten the eyes and have a younger and "fresher" look. However, sagging skin in the eye area is sometimes more of an aesthetic problem. Heavy skin on the upper eyelids, as if resting on the eyelashes, can cause eye strain and even interfere with vision. To understand if you have reached this stage, use your finger to hold up the skin of the eyelid and eyebrows. If this seems to improve eyesight, then the culprit is likely to be sagging skin.

What are the options for lifting the skin around the eyes?
For an eyelid lift, eyelid surgery, what in medical parlance is called blepharoplasty, could be considered.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is surgery to remove the skin and sometimes the fat of the upper eyelid. It is a very simple procedure in light sedation with a duration of about 25 minutes. In about a week you have a complete recovery.
Blepharoplasty of the lower eyelid is addressed to bags and wrinkles under the eye. The surgeon removes or repositions the fat with a small incision and, if necessary, pulls on the excess skin. Recovery is similar to that of upper eyelid blepharoplasty.
For the eyebrows, the surgeon makes incisions just above the forehead to lift and pull the skin over the eyes. This procedure leaves small visible scars. The incisions in the hairline can make the scars less visible.
Are these surgeries safe?
They are extremely confident. Most of the risks are aesthetic in nature: asymmetric results, excess tissue that is not eliminated and results that do not correct the problem enough. Major risks, such as bleeding, infection, nerve damage or other problems, are rare.
In both cases, the percentage of risk is reduced if you rely on serious and experienced specialists.
Is this a long term solution?
Good results can be obtained for a considerable period of time, even a decade, but, as aging continues, the face, like the rest of the body, will show it. Other surgical procedures can always be used.
Are there other elements to consider?
Most people are good candidates for eyelid and/or eyebrow lift, however, there are some exceptions:
● Those who have already done a superior blepharoplasty, and feel the sagging skin again, may no longer have skin in the upper eyelid to remove. In this case, the eyebrow lift may be a better option.
● Those who take anticoagulants and cannot stop taking them for facelifts may need to change the surgical plan.
If these solutions are not suitable for you, there are non-surgical procedures to illuminate the eye area:
● Regularly use moisturizer and sunscreen
● Not smoking
● Use chemical peeling for fine wrinkles around the eyes
● Resort to micro-fillers
In any case, before making any decision, it is advisable to consult the specialist.
Who can do non-surgical blepharoplasty?
The ideal candidates for non-surgical eyelid lift are those patients who after 30-35 years of age seek a fresher and more youthful appearance by restoring the tone lost in the eye area and therefore improving the overall appearance of the face. The causes of these imperfections, as explained by the specialists, can be different: from lack of rest to excessive exposure to sunlight, from dehydration of the skin to smoke, from family predisposition to a diet too rich in sodium.
Even if these are non-invasive or minimally invasive techniques, it is still important that patients enjoy a good general state of health, also from a psychological point of view.
This type of treatment is also indicated for those who are not a good candidate for blepharoplasty or for those who do not wish to undergo surgery.
Finally, it is important to underline that the type of blepharoplasty and the technique used will depend on the specialist evaluation of a surgeon and will depend on the characteristics and expectations of each patient.
How do I choose my doctor?
As a first step, it is important, first of all, to inquire if the selected specialist is registered in the register of the Order of Doctors and Surgeons of his province and to verify that he is specialized in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery or that he is qualified to practice Aesthetic Medicine.
Another point to consider is the communication between doctor and patient, which must be effective and regular. The patient must, in fact, feel free to be able to address all his possible questions to the specialist, so that he can also evaluate the following elements:
● The results to be expected after the treatment
● Possible complications or inconvenience
● Treatment procedures
● The precautions to be followed before and after the treatment
After choosing the certified surgeon, it is important to collect some information on his professional curriculum and his experience, including the success rate of the surgical procedures and treatments previously carried out.
