This workshop is inspired by the GEAR log cabin workshops and will be a week long workshop/retreat focusing on several topics on surfaces in 3-manifolds (see below).
The location is the End of the Road Lodge in Young, AZ -- Tonto National Forest.

In this workshop we will study surfaces in 3-manifolds from several perspectives. Each participant will be asked to give a 2-hour lecture.
Potential subtopics include but are not limited to:
Virtual Haken
Character variety methods
Foliations
Minimal surfaces
Totally geodesic surfaces
