"If it’s not in writing, it didn't happen"

General meaning of Documentation is a 'Material which provides official information and evidence and serves as a record'. In any field there should be Documentation. Which keeps the event alive for longer period of time. If history is not documented very well by someone then perhaps we don't have the great heritage.

Every event should be recorded in academic field. Which will show the chart of progress of particular field. It is said that "If its not in writing, it didn't happen". People would not believe in your words if you haven’t documented the things properly. British have very good habit of documenting the things, where ever they go, they always keep diary, pen and camera. So knowledge and information can be survived for long time.

Documents can be exciting, inspiring and creative form of expression. Documents are living data. Additionally, Documentation creates trust. Documentation sets expectation, provides clarity and creates safety. Documentation creates things more real. As we know that writing is a helpful tool for memory. We even can't think clearly if it is not written clearly. "How do you document?" is equally impotent with “What do you document?" There are certain creative ways of documenting the events.

English Department is the Hub of academic activities and events, and we document the events in the form of blog. We record all function and festival that took place at Department. We have documented the events in the form of Blog with appropriate images. All events are documented in book too. English Department provides enchanting platform to students for personality development. We have various kinds of committee such as Bulletin Board committee, Library Board committee, ICT Committee, Art and Creativity Committee, Gardening Committee, Celebration Committee, Daily Schedule Committee etc. it’s prime Duty of Documentation committee to document all creative activity of every committee.

Students are free to do innovative and inventive activity in Department. Documentation is a “Mirror” of all those activity. It will serve as ‘Light House’ for next generation and also it will handover great heritage and tradition to new generation. This memorabilia will play a vital role in preserving all sweet memories. We record all events in form of writing, images and videos.

I would like to mention the important role of ‘Facebook’ in documenting events. Every day I preserve academic memories in the form of digital diary ‘Facebook’. It helped me to record the things date vise and in chronological order. While preparing the Blog I just have to copy the link of particular blog from my facebook wall. But it requires tremendous effort to write every event everyday on facebook. This is how integration of technology can help us in preserving activities.

Innumerable events celebrated at English Department. New Semester was started with the grand celebration of “International Yoga Day”. Two Ph.D Viva had been done in English Department. One of the Research scholars was guided by our HOD Dr. Dilip Barad. Students participated in two National and one International Conference. International conference was organized by BAOU, Ahmadabad and National conferences were organized by M.S University Baroda. More than Thirty students have participated in Conferences this year. Very enthusiastically students performed in “Shyamal Youth Festival”. One of the students of our Department ‘Ajit Kaliya’ got third rank in installation at National level. Guest lectures and visiting facilities’ lectures are worth attending for every student. Very excitedly we celebrated Kite flying festival, Navratri celebration, Christmas celebration, Republic day, Independent Day, Guarding Day etc. Department organized two days “NET – GSET” workshop for M.A, Graduate students and Research Scholar.

We feel very proud that our HOD Dr. Dilip Barad Sir becomes “Dean of Arts Faculty” this year. His hard work and dedication is reflected in his Achievements.

I have golden opportunity to record all events of English Department and also remain keen and objective observer of every activity. I would like to thank my committee members for collecting photographs of events. I want to express my sense of gratitude towards Dr. Dilip Barad who teach me the importance of Documentation.
