Red Ribbon Week (RRW) is a national anti-drug campaign that is celebrated annually during the last week of October (October 23-31). During RRW, youth and young adults in communities and schools across the nation pledge to live drug free by wearing red ribbons and participating in school- and community-wide anti-drug events.
The Red Ribbon Campaign theme is Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free.
NFP is a national nonprofit organization that leads the annual RRW campaign. NFP provides numerous free resources to help organizations plan and promote RRW events and activities, including: planning toolkits, youth and family activities, educational resources, lesson plans, and more. To find resources to help get your community involved, visit www.redribbon.org
The annual RRW campaign also includes a local and national Red Ribbon Rally, and for over 30 years DrugFree Idaho has brought hundreds of students together for the Red Ribbon Rally on the Idaho Capitol steps to encourage our youth to live healthy, drug-free lives.
DFI also supports in-school activities throughout the week by providing 5 free, online modules - one for each day of RRW. Each module includes a short video followed by an optional activity and discussion topic that should take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. You can find the modules and activities at www.drugfreeidaho.org/virtual-red-ribbon-rally
Natural High (NH) is a drug prevention nonprofit that empowers youth to find their natural high and develop the skills and courage to live life well. Each year NH provides free lesson plans and resources for schools and organizations to make the most of RRW.
NH's easy-to-use lessons include a series of inspirational influencer videos paired with discussion questions and activities for classrooms and/or youth groups. The lessons are designed for 4th–12th grade students and can be used to meet a variety of needs, from brief 10-15-minute discussions to activities that occur across multiple days or classes. You can find the lesson plans and resources at www.naturalhigh.org/playlists/red-ribbon-week-2023.
NH also provides a Red Ribbon Week Toolkit that can be found here.
RRW offers a great opportunity for parents, teachers, educators, and community organizations to raise awareness about substance misuse. The DEA has created a series of materials to help your community participate in RRW, including: photo and PSA contests, promotional materials, presentations, fact sheets, talking points, and social media graphics.
