Our game design process

Summary

Supply Chain is a game that uses transformative fun to give players the experience of a war-like situation. It uses real examples from actual refugee situations to simulate how players managing the supply of goods and hospitality for refugee camps should make decisions. Players should experience hard fun as they try to figure out the mechanics of the game, they should also have a sense of working together as they cooperate and find ways to satisfy the needs of the camps around them.

Inspiration

We took our inspiration for the mechanics of this game from Tetris. Later we also added rules for stacking the pieces similar to that of Blockus.

We also took inspiration from cooperative multiplayer games like Overcooked to simulate a work environment in which players have to work together.

Previous Versions

We went through a couple of iterations in the development of the game. Starting out with just the stacking mechanics and building a narrative of 3 refugee camps that must be supported by the players.

Player Agency

The players are provided with 'Daily News' cards which lay out their tasks for the day. After receiving the news card, players must strategize amongst themselves to answer the needs of the three drawn cards. This gives players the ability to be autonomous and make decisions on how to tackle the situation

Current Game

In the latest updates to the game, we have been making changes from feedback that was received from playtesting. Making the gameplay smoother for players to have deeper immersion into the game world and its messages.
