Seafood transparency is a huge issue that consumers face today. There is often limited information allowing customers to trace the origin of their product when it should be clean what country the fish came from and whether it is wild-caught or farm-raised.
The Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) law requires retailers to provide their customers with information regarding the country of origin of regulated food for human consumption such as land meats and "wild and farm-raised fish and shellfish" (USDA).

Products with a "Product of" label give the consumer very little information and leave questions such as; was the product caught in that location? Was the product packaged in that location? Did the product travel at all before getting to that location?
Seafoods with a "Processed in" or "Packaged in" label are more than likely caught and processed in different countries. The lack of information makes it hard for consumers to know exactly where on the globe their product came from.
Products with a "Caught in" label provide the consumer with the some of the best information possible. Some labels even give a FAO number, which tells consumers exactly which major fishing area the product is from.
