WIP.mp3This is a Yamaha YM2608 song that I made in BambooTracker. What are those two things, you might ask? The Yamaha YM2608 is (according to the manual) an 11-channel soundchip that has 6 FM channels, 3 SSG channels, a Rhythm module with 6 drum samples, and a custom ADPCM channel. BambooTracker is a tracker music program by rerrahkr, and is probably the first music tracker to make music for the aforementioned soundchip. When I started this album on January 2019, the custom ADPCM channel wasn't implemented yet, so I used the preset drum samples from the Rhythm module. The Yamaha YM2608 was notably used in the NEC PC-88 and PC-98 series of computers (pictured above). The PC-88 and PC-98 were both released in 1981 and 1982 respectively. Originally, they only had an internal buzzer, but the PC-88 models that came out in 1985 included a Yamaha YM2203, a 6-channel chip which has 3 FM channels and 3 SSG channels, by which the models in 1987 came out with the YM2608 chip.

Back on subject now. That was how the song started out on January 14, 2019. I spent some time thinking about it and thought, "I should make a PC-98 album!" Now, I'm not the only one who would do this as HertzDevil covered the entire Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom soundtrack on PC-98 and released it back in 2014 (link: https://hertzdevil.bandcamp.com/album/pc-98-perfect-cherry-blossom), though he used Professional Music Driver (a popular PC-98 music making program using MML) as BambooTracker didn't exist at the time. I had thought about doing this since I decided to change the way I release albums. In 2018, I would make songs, upload a certain number them on YouTube (SoundCloud since August 2018), and compile them into an album. From 2019 onward, I've decided to make albums by making the songs "behind the scenes" for a single system, and compiling them into an album while revolving around a certain theme. The song you heard is dedicated to an airplane, so the album's theme was going to revolve around airplanes, with each song being dedicated to one of them.

It's also not my first album to be made entirely on a single system, as I made an album in 2018 entirely on the Famicom with the Namco 163 chip using 0CC-FamiTracker. The theme for that album was some sort of mock-up OST for some kind of game (though many of the songs in the album are no longer up to par with my current compositional skills, and I've since decommissioned the album).
