Background

DJ Super J (a name given by his fans for the superb music he plays on radio) has more than 30 years of radio experience and is a licensed IT expert with a BSC degree. a cherished radio host, MC, and program director.

He began his radio career in 1989 at Audwax Radio (A University of Durban-Westville Auditory eXperience ) while pursuing a BSc at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa (Westville Campus).

He hosted a variety of radio programs, including weekday breakfast, lunch, and drive-time shows.

During his days at University he shared the airwaves alongside radio hosts Just ICE and Kenny Maistry.

Super J completed his commercial radio broadcasting training in 1993 at Johannesburg, South Africa's Solid Gold FM (99.2 FM).

Tony Sanderson, a legendary figure in South African radio, owned this station. Super J was given the chance to host the Sunday morning breakfast show after finishing the training; until the station was shut down by the then Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA - now known as ICASA) as a result of changes to the New South Africa broadcasting acts and restrictions on the issuance of commercial licenses.

Super J worked with the Solid Gold FM management to launch East Wave Radio 92.2 FM, Lenasia's first community radio station (around June 1995).

He was one of the first presenters to go on air when East Wave Radio (99.2 FM) was launched. On Fridays, he broadcast the English Top 20 and on Saturdays a house party show which gave birth to his popular show The Weekend Wiggle. On this station he broadcasted alongside the late Gavin Singh, a close and dear friend of his.

In around 2012 Super J joined another community based radio station, Lenz FM 93.6. He was essential to the station's launch, programming, marketing, and, of course, the use of his IT expertise for hardware and software upgrades, automation, and web creation.

He was crucial in increasing listenership and briging in prominent guests to the radio station.

Many eminent visitors were frequently welcomed into the studio by Super J. Popular musicians , actresses, authors, dignitaries from the government, contenders and winners from beauty pageants, and a long list of others were among the guests.

Super J also played a key role in getting Lenz FM's sister station Phoenix FM (Durban, South Africa) off the ground in 2018.

In October 2015, DJ Super J attended another Commercial Radio broadcasting course to upkill his broadcasting skills. This time round it was with HOT 91.9 (now Hot 102.7) . A course run by radio personalities Lloyd Madurai , Darren Scott and Paul Almeida.

Popular for Super J's Old school music and mixes, The Weekend Wiggle began airing in December 2020 on a number of internet radio stations throughout the world, including those in South Africa, the UK, Canada, Sweden and the USA.

Currently, the show airs live every Saturday at 20h00 CAT, bringing you the best in old school music and great guests from the film and music industry, beauty pageants and the community at large for interviews.
