The Superior Municipal Airport will host burro camp for the 2026 Hee-Haw Hustle Pack Burro Race. The airport has unobstructed views of both Apache Leap and Picket Post Mountain to enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The airport is conveniently located just south of AZ Hwy 60, with close dining options and minutes from Main Street where race activities will take place. Dry camping will be available to race participants. No stall rentals are available. Campers must provide their own portable panels or hot wire corral to secure their burros. Water, portable toilets, hand wash stations and a manure trailer will be onsite for campers. If you are staying in town, but need to house your donkeys in camp, you must register and pay the camping fee. A burro bus shuttle service will be available to drop racers near the race start and back to camp.
$15 per night (paid at run signup registration)
The Box 8 Ranch (previous burro camp location) is not available to host our 2026 racers. When we struggled to secure a location large enough for burro camp, the Town of Superior graciously offered to host burro camp at the Superior Municipal Airport. This requires them shutting down the airport to accommodate our event. Please plan your travels to arrive at camp NO EARLIER THAN 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 12. Camp MUST BE VACATED BY NOON on Sunday, November 15. There is horse camping (2 stalls, fcfs) at Picket Post Trailhead for anyone wishing to come prior or stay later to explore Superior. There is no toilet or water at the Picket Post horse camp. NOTE: The helipads at the airport will remain open in the event of an emergency and prior notice will be given to campers should a helicopter need to land.
Camp Rules
Campers must adhere to the following rules. Burro Camp will be inspected by the Town of Superior Fire Marshall.
ALL CAMPERS MUST CHECK IN WITH THE CAMP HOST!
Camp will be set up RV park style with appropriately spaced rows and driving/fire lanes. There will be marked, designated camping spaces and all trucks and trailers must stay within their assigned space.
We're so grateful to have a camp! 😊
Camp fires will be permitted as long as Tonto National Forest does not have any fire restrictions during our event. Camp fires must be a designated number of feet away from any trailer or vehicle. More specifics to come.
We are so happy we can have a campfire! 😃
Leashed dogs are welcome!
Clean up after your pets!
Quiet Hours: 10 p.m. - 6 a.m.
Leave camp cleaner than you found it!
Be sure to thank Town of Superior officials for the use of their airport! 🤗
