A Super Smash Bros Ultimate Overhaul by PhazoGanon
Background
Super Smash Bros EXO (Shortened to SSB: EXO), is a free to play (by law it can't be pay to play) fan made overhaul modification for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that I began to develop sometime around November 2021, with the first development being replacing Ridley's Dair with the Pogo Tail from Super Metroid.
Initially, I got Smash Ultimate around Christmas of 2018, eager to try it out with my previous experience with the series (granted a somewhat limited amount of Smash 4 for Wii U), and I've played it for a countless amount of hours ever since.
However, as I continued to play the game and viewed all the events that happened since then, a lot of things have changed. I decided to start looking into other smash titles, and saw what they were like. Eventually, I found a channel that goes by the name of Vishera, who was a Smash 4 Modder who started doing Ultimate mods. After some time, since Vishera wasn't able to make some mod ideas (due to personal circumstances in his life), I decided to learn how to start modding the game for myself.
As I've gained more experience in the inner workings of the game, and started to understand more about how things work, I began to realize something, being how Ultimate is well, kinda lacking in certain departments.
Now, I will say that the games quality is good enough to be satisfying for the majority of people who play the game, but if you've ever taken a look into the past games, you may notice a few things about the game and its design choices. As an example, it seems in an attempt to further simplify the game and reduce the skill gap between casual and competitive audiences, they removed a variety of techniques, such as platform shield dropping, perfect pivoting, and various other changes.
Now, while I will say that I agree with the idea of trying to make the transition between casual and competitive gameplay easier, I don't feel trying to lessen the skill gap in these ways was the best decision.
So, with all this in mind, we can now move onto what this mod does.
What does this mod do?
While not being the largest or most ambitious overhaul for Ultimate currently, the intended goal of the mod may make it so. The goals of this mod are:
Rebalance the game to make sure all characters are viable and stand a decent chance against anyone else on the roster. The rebalancing is based on a mixture of casual and competitive play.
Adds many engine changes to make players have significantly more options at their disposal, permitting further depth and development with the game, or to lessen/remove mechanics that can be deemed as archaic, unnecessary, or harmful. The list of mechanics will be shown in the Engine Changes page.
Redesign most of the characters to be more faithful to their home series (within reason and good design)
A rework of Custom Smash to have more distinct gamemodes.
And many more changes to come.
