In Mystery Men, a group of superheroes with slightly-less-impressive powers than others find themselves as the last balustrade to prevent their city from being overcome by evildoers. The cast of the comedy film is impressive, and includes Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Greg Kinnear, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Reubens, Kel Mitchell, Wes Studi, Geoffrey Rush, Lena Olin, Eddie Izzard, Claire Forlani, and Tom Waits. Kalyan Shankar speaks to the late teens and early 20s about campus days. The narrative unfolds from the point of view of Ganesh aka Laddu (Vishnu Oi), a super senior who reminisces his early days on campus to a fresher who feels lost and wants to go home. Laddu has been there and faced a similar situation, only to be a changed man within a few days of experiencing campus life and forging new friendships.

At the same time, the conversations between Laddu and his father (Muralidhar Goud of DJ Tillu fame) are hilarious. Muralidhar is easily one of the best actors in Telugu cinema today to play the frustrated father who delivers snarky lines with a deadpan expression. Vishnu Oi plays a self-aware character who fits the bill of a super-senior student.

In the movie, Lex Luthor and his Legion of Doom (Riddler, Cheetah, Livewire, etc) harness the power of a special Kryptonian amulet, in order to transport various super heroes into the Phantom Zone. Then, with many of the major players out of the way, the Legion of Doom rise up and attempt to take over the world.

But while Lex and Co. believe it will be plain sailing now that most of the big-league heroes are incarcerated, they fail to recognise that Earth still has some champions in the shape of the DC Super Hero Girls. This team of young superheroes have no intention of letting the Legion of Doom win, and set out to foil their plan.

There is no genre in the world right now bigger than superhero movies, and it's obviously a space in which DC movies are a massive force. For years, we watched a new cinematic era for the brand play out starting with the release of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel in 2013, but following the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as the overseers of DC Studios, things are about to change dramatically.
