Watch this instructional video that reviews each line of the spine label of fiction and nonfiction books.
Pay attention to the section that shows the alphabet and how to alphabetize by the first letter of the author's last name, then the first two letters of their name, then the first three letters, and so on.
Play as many rounds as you need of the interactive game "Mrs. Lodges Library" to show your proficiency in putting fiction and nonfiction books in call number order. Progress through the 3 levels, level 1 being the easiest and level 3 the hardest.
You will be given a unique stack of books which you must shelve in the library. Some books will have authors with the same last name, such as King, but different first names, to extend your understanding of the principles of alphabetizing.
When you have completed shelving, let Mrs. Hastings know. One of your peers will check your work to determine if all books were shelved correctly.
