Visit Sunshine - Medicare Urgent Care Clinic when you need urgent health care

Urgent care is when you need medical attention for an illness or injury that can be managed without a trip to the emergency department, but cannot wait for a regular appointment with a general practitioner (GP).

Sunshine - Medicare Urgent Care Clinic provides acute episodic care and treatment that does not require a hospital admission. This may include:

• minor infections

• minor fractures, sprains, sports injuries and neck and back pain

• urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

• minor cuts

• insect bites and rashes

• minor eye and ear problems

• respiratory illness

• gastroenteritis

• mild burns.

If you have a serious urgent medical condition or are very unwell, you should go to ED and in an emergency call 000

When are we open?

We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Our standard opening hours are:

Monday 8.00am - 10.00pm

Tuesday 8.00am - 10.00pm

Wednesday 8.00am - 10.00pm

Thursday 8.00am - 10.00pm

Friday 8.00am - 10.00pm

Saturday 8.00am - 10.00pm

Sunday 8.00am - 10.00pm

Parking is available onsite and also at the co-located medical centre carpark ajacent to the Urgent Care Clinic at 423 Ballarat Road, Sunshine. Follow the signs for “Sunshine - Medicare Urgent Care Clinic” when you arrive. 

Prescriptions

We will only prescribe medications that our doctors consider are necessary to manage your urgent problem. 

We will not prescribe routine or chronic medications. You will need to see your regular GP for these.

In many cases, your pharmacist can give you an extra supply of your regular medications and then get a script from your regular GP.

We do not prescribe or administer schedule 8 medications or benzos (benzodiazepines).

What does it cost?

There is no charge for this service. You do not need a Medicare card, an appointment or a referral to visit us. 

Who do we see?

We see children and adults of all age groups.

If an interpreter is required, please let staff know when attending. We will then be able to arrange for an interpreter for your consultation, which is a free and confidential service for you.

Our clinic is a safe and inclusive space for all people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTQIA+ communities, people with disability, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. 

What do we treat?

Urgent care is for non-life-threatening conditions that need prompt attention but do not require a visit to an emergency department.

We are not a general practice.

We do not provide routine GP services such as chronic disease management, medical certificates, care plans, or regular scripts. Please see your usual GP for these.

As this is Urgent Care service, you will only be able to book appointments in the next 24 hours. 

If your problem is not urgent you will need to see your regular GP.

Walk-ins and appointments will be seen and prioritised based on clinical need.

If you have difficulty with our online booking service you can call us during clinic hours on (03) 8539 2772. This line is only for booking, no other information will be given out over the phone due to privacy laws.
