Now, I'm trying to use the following code (mentioned below) for achieving the sunset effect on my background images, but it is not working. I've also tried removing the "before" element & adding the background images, along with gradients but then, it is appearing above the background images.

When it comes to creating content my favourite part is making my vision come to life through Lightroom! In this tutorial I will take you through all of the steps on how to edit sunset photos in Lightroom!

The most important part when you want to create a stunning sunset photo are your camera settings. To not lose any details and colours in the sky I strongly advise you to take your photo in the RAW format.

When I edit a sunset photo in Lightroom I always love to bring down the highlights as much as possible. You can easily do this by sliding the Highlights slider completely to the left. By doing so your sky will become a little darker and more colours will come through.

This is by far my favourite tool when it comes to editing a sunset photo in Lightroom! After applying your graduated filter do not press Done. If you scroll down a little you will see an option to select Range Mask. Click on it and select Colour. This step is only possible if you are using the desktop version of Lightroom.

Why do you want to do this? After applying the graduated filter you can clearly see that not only did the sky get affected by your adjustments but for instance the mosque in the background also turned darker. By using the range mask we can easily adapt this!

To take a sunset silhouette you are most likely going to need to put your camera into manual mode. If you are not able to adjust all of the settings the camera will do it for you and cause the flash to come on and ruin the sunset in the background.

The beauty of a sunset silhouette photo is in the contrast of the artistic background to the subject. This is a great way to embrace low light photography considering you will not have much light to work with.

Do this by having them move their arms or legs away from their body. For example two people could be holding hands side by side but with distance in between them to have the background come through between them and create the silhouetted effect.

One of my favorite tools is the black adjustment. You will want to lower down the blacks to make that silhouette really stand out and actually be black. Doing this will create a nice contrast in your sunset and subject.

The next two adjustments will be to lower the shadows and raise the highlights. These type of adjustments will be to your discretion so if you lower your shadows and it takes too much out of the sunset then try to pull that back out with the highlights.
