Had a good fortune to deliver a talk to 500 young school students on "Why Mathematics gives you wings you never knew about! The real world impact of abstract mathematical thinking". I was super happy as I got to use unicorn and light saber in my presentation š¤©.Ā
Here is the abstract of the talk
"People often have a fear of mathematics, that it is too alien and too different from the everyday experience for it to be useful in their lives. Mathematical pursuits are often considered pursuits in abstraction and some sort of sorcery that mathematicians are somehow able to invent in labs and universities. But should we really care about mathematical thinking, is it really useful. And is it accessible to everyone or are there some special people really gifted to pursue mathematics! Moreover, more fundamentally did mathematics really exist in nature in the first place, and is discovered by its pursuers, or is it an invention of human thought? The goal of the talk is to convey some of the excitement, the joy and the utility that the mathematical thinking offers.
This talk try cover some ground as well as explore what lessons we can learn from mathematical pursuits for use in our daily lives! This talk should be of interest to anyone who has ever loved, struggled or hated mathematics!"
