Membership in Sunliners provides a variety of line dancing opportunities for Sun City Oro Valley residents. A partner is not required to dance.
New Dancers. We periodically offer Introductory classes for residents who are new to line dancing. These classes are advertised to the community in
a variety of ways including the Tipster, This Week in SCOV email, and the Sun City Facebook page.
Current Members. On an on-going basis we provide our members with information about line dance techniques, classes with a professional instructor, practice sessions, and social opportunities to dance—all in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all levels of dancers.
Transition to Beginner. These sessions offer instruction in basic steps, terminology, and entry level dances.
Beginner. For line dancers who are comfortable with the basics and ready to learn dances that have additional step patterns, turns, and more and different rhythms.
Transition to Intermediate. For experienced beginners who are not quite ready to tackle intermediate dances, but are ready to learn dances with more complex steps and turns, tags and restarts.
Intermediate. For experienced dancers who are comfortable with a wide range of step patterns. An Intermediate dance is likely to feature interesting step combinations, pauses, syncopations, body movements, timing variations, and styling.
Advanced. This is a self-directed group of members who learn higher Intermediate and Advanced dances.
Professional Instruction. Lessons with a professional instructor are offered weekly for a fee. Members may attend introductory, beginner and intermediate classes for one fee. Residents may observe one class free of charge before joining.
Practices. These weekly sessions are led by volunteer practice leaders and are provided free of charge to all Sunliners members. These practices are intended to review club dances and provide an opportunity to reinforce the dances learned at the professional instructor’s classes.
