If you want long-lasting battery life and a featherlight design for extended travel, choose SUNITEC 5.3; if you need an on-device display to manage connections without pulling out your phone, choose 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane. Both devices solve the same core problem: turning older airplane entertainment systems into wireless audio sources. However, they take very different approaches to solving it. One prioritizes endurance and minimalism, while the other focuses on user interface clarity and immediate visual feedback. If you are looking for the best over ear headphones for study sessions that involve long flights or train rides, the choice between these two transmitters depends entirely on whether you value silent operation and battery duration or visual confirmation of your pairing status.
• SUNITEC 5.3: Its biggest strength is a massive 35-hour battery life paired with an incredibly lightweight build, but it lacks any visual screen to confirm connection status.
• 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane: It shines with an integrated display screen and volume controls right on the device, though its battery life is shorter at 25 hours and the unit is slightly bulkier.
• Who picks SUNITEC 5.3: The traveler who wants to charge once before a multi-day trip and prefers a "set it and forget it" invisible adapter.
• Who picks 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane: The user who wants to see exactly what is happening with their audio stream and needs physical buttons to adjust volume without touching their phone.
The SUNITEC 5.3 is designed for the person who values silence and endurance above all else. It is a tiny, white plastic dongle that weighs just 18.8 grams. That is barely heavier than a standard coin. When you slide this into your pocket or tuck it into an earbud case, you often forget it is even there. This minimalist approach extends to the interface as well. There are no lights flashing to distract you, no screens to read, and no buttons to press. You simply plug it into the 3.5mm jack of the in-flight entertainment system, and it works.
This device excels when you are trying to focus deeply. Whether you are using noise cancelling in ear earbuds for study purposes during a long-haul flight or just trying to get some rest, the lack of visual clutter is a genuine benefit. The touch controls are subtle, meaning you aren't accidentally triggering a pause or a mode change while rummaging through a bag. The real star here is the battery. With a claimed 35 hours of continuous playback, you can likely use this for an entire round-trip international journey without ever needing to find a power outlet. It supports aptX Adaptive and Low Latency codecs, which means the audio remains crisp and synchronized with video, essential for watching movies where lip-sync errors ruin the immersion.
However, this product is not for everyone. Because it has no display, you have no way of knowing immediately if it has successfully paired with your headphones unless you hear a sound or check your device. If you are traveling with someone who uses Bluetooth headphones and you need to quickly switch who is listening, the process relies entirely on your headphones' own indicators rather than the transmitter itself. It is also strictly limited to 3.5mm AUX inputs. It will not work with USB-C ports or digital-only outputs on newer TVs. If you need a visual confirmation of your battery level or connection status while you are fumbling in a dark airplane cabin, this model might feel too opaque for your needs.

The 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane takes a different philosophy. It is built from ABS plastic and features a small but functional LCD display right on the front face. For many travelers, this screen is the deciding factor. Instead of guessing if your headphones are connected or checking your phone to see the battery percentage, you look down at the device itself. It shows you the connection status and remaining battery life instantly. This eliminates the anxiety of wondering if the transmitter is actually working before you put your headphones on.
This model is particularly useful for those who prefer tactile control. While the SUNITEC version relies on touch sensors, the 1Mii unit includes dedicated push-button volume controls directly on the body. This is a significant advantage on an airplane where you cannot easily reach your phone to lower the volume when the movie starts, or when you want to turn up the dialogue without taking off your headphones. The ability to connect two Bluetooth headphones simultaneously allows you and a travel companion to share the in-flight entertainment without sharing a single pair of earbuds. The audio quality is high, supporting aptX Adaptive and HD, ensuring that the sound is rich enough for critical listening tasks.
The trade-off lies in the physical size and battery longevity. At roughly 1 inch wide and slightly thicker than the SUNITEC model, it is still pocketable but feels more substantial. The battery offers 25 hours of playtime, which is excellent for most trips but falls short compared to the 35-hour capability of the competitor. If you are planning a week-long backpacking trip where charging opportunities are scarce, the 10-hour difference could be meaningful. Furthermore, the screen, while helpful, adds a layer of complexity. In total darkness, the backlight might be noticeable, whereas the SUNITEC remains completely dark until activated by touch. It is ideal for students or professionals who need to monitor their connection status frequently but might find the extra bulk slightly less convenient for ultra-light packing.
• Best for battery life → SUNITEC 5.3: The 35-hour capacity beats the 1Mii's 25 hours, making it superior for long-haul journeys without access to chargers.
• Best for visual feedback → 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane: The built-in display lets you check connection status and battery levels without unlocking your phone.
• Best for volume control → 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane: Physical push-buttons allow for quick adjustments, unlike the touch-sensitive surface of the SUNITEC.
• Best for portability → SUNITEC 5.3: Weighing only 18.8 grams, it is significantly lighter and thinner than the 1Mii model.
• Best for shared listening → Both: Both units support dual connections, allowing two people to listen to the same source simultaneously.
• Best for low-latency gaming → SUNITEC 5.3: The specific mention of aptX Low Latency optimization makes it slightly better for syncing audio with video games.
• Best for durability perception → 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane: The ABS construction feels robust, though both are designed for travel wear and tear.
• Best for in-ear headphones for study → 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane: The screen helps ensure you don't lose connection during long study sessions on transit.
In my opinion, I would buy the 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane for general travel and study purposes. The presence of the display screen and physical volume buttons solves the most common pain points of using airplane adapters: not knowing if it is paired and having to fumble for your phone to adjust the sound. While the SUNITEC 5.3 wins on battery life, the 25-hour capacity of the 1Mii is sufficient for almost any commercial flight itinerary. The ability to verify your connection visually saves time and frustration in busy airport terminals. If you are specifically looking for the best over ear headphones for study sessions where you need to monitor your equipment status constantly, the 1Mii provides that peace of mind that the SUNITEC simply cannot offer due to its blank surface.
It connects to any seat equipped with a 3.5mm AUX audio jack. Since it does not require a USB port or digital input, it is compatible with the vast majority of legacy in-flight entertainment systems found on domestic and international flights.
Yes, with the 1Mii SafeFly Min Airplane, you can use the dedicated push-buttons on the device to raise or lower the volume. The SUNITEC 5.3 requires you to use the touch controls on the unit itself, which may be less intuitive if you are wearing gloves or in a cramped seat.
With the 1Mii, you can see the battery percentage directly on the screen. The SUNITEC 5.3 does not have a display, so you must rely on the device's behavior or the indicator lights on your connected headphones to determine if power is running low.
Both transmitters are excellent companions for in-ear headphones used for studying. They provide the necessary Bluetooth bridge to older audio jacks, allowing you to enjoy distraction-free audio environments on planes or trains.
