Unfortunately this is the wrong time of year for studying real sunflowers and trying get my own ideas for tooling them. Looking at pictures left me wondering if A100 might be a good choice, but it isn't a tool I have, so I can't experiment. Not sure if it makes sense to buy it right now just to play with it and figure it out, although I am likely to find other uses for it anyway.

The thing about tool lists is that they are usually just suggestions and most times there are other tools that can be substituted that will do just as good a job. Most teachers will encourage you to experiment with the tools you have if you don't have all the ones they used. I think you could achieve pretty good results with many different background tools for the center of the sunflower. Maybe even a combination of different ones for a special texture effect.

Jim does an amazing job on sunflowers. He's got a couple more sunflower patterns available for free download on his website There's also a place to contact him from his website. Might not hurt to just ask him how he did it. Nobody could answer that better than he can.

Additionally, the other sunflower designs are tooled differently than the one on the Tandy site! In several of those, he used the plain seeder on the inner flattened section as well as the outer ring. So that is probably a good way for me to do it.

Whenever I need to see a "real" something, and that something happens to be out of season, I do an image search on Google. This image might help you figure out how you want to make a sunflower seed pod:

But I like to be prepared for my next project and the tools were worrying me, hence my post here. Not sure if I will get the one for the center or do like it looks like Jim did on some of his OTHER sunflower patterns--he used the seeder on the inside section as well, but seemed to have flattened it first, so it was still recessed and the design less prominent.

Download the Free Sunflower Craft Template. For this project, you will need to decide if you will be making plain sunflowers for children to decorate. Or if you will be making the kindness/thankful flower. All of the templates are in the same PDF file.

For the plain sunflower, you will need to print the page of the sunflower template with the plain circles. Then you will staple the template to brown paper and cut out as many shapes as you need (just like the leaves and petals). For the kindness/thankful flower see step three (below).

These free printable sunflower templates are great for children's crafts, card making, tissue paper collages, sun catchers, and so much more! Pick from large sunflower templates or smaller sunflower patterns in color and black and white. I hope you enjoy!

These DIY paper sunflower templates will help you learn how to make a paper sunflower with a beautiful natural touch. If you love this, you might want to check out my crochet sunflowers too! This post contains affiliate links.

Print out the PDF file. Carefully cut out each part. Trace it onto the correct colored cardstock and cut out your parts. To create the fold lines for the sunflower, take a ruler and a scoring tool, place your cutout onto a self-healing mat, and score down the center from the tip of the petal to the base. You can create similar score marks on the leaf too by tracing the template.

5. Stack your sunflower! Simply glue the flat centers together. First, glue three layers of petals, then the rest of the center of your flower, and finally, glue the two together. Make sure to stagger each layer so that the petals show through the spaces.

Sunflowers are one of the most beloved blooms! I captured a giant paper sunflower once, years ago with a rosette-inspired center. I decided it was time to reinvent the large sunflower with a new and improved center that was more true-to-life like a sunflower in nature!

This sunflower template can absolutely be cut by hand with just scissors! The petals are very easy to cut out. Now for the center, I want to show you an alternative faster than trying to cut the PDF center printable.

Welcome to Week 3 of the Summer Fun Quilt Along ! Today we will tackle the sunflower and stem block. And I did have to do some tackling on this one! Getting the sunflower to be the right size took a bit of trial and error.

Here is a comparison of the three sunflower blocks. On the left is the traditional Dresden technique using a 30 triangle ruler. In the middle is a Dresden block using templates and sewn together by machine. On the far right is a hexagon flower using English paper piecing by hand. Personally, I like the middle flower. It looks like a big, fat sunflower to me.

NOTE: Because of the options and complexity of the sunflower block, the pdf instructions will only include templates for the sunflower block and instructions for the stem block. You can download the simplified version of these instructions here: Summer Fun Part 3

Once all of the blades are sewn together, you should have a nice big sunflower. You will make the center circle just as before, but the circle will be larger as shown on the template (pdf link at the beginning of this blog post).

I have my blocks done, but will wait to add my sunflowers. I used a creative grids ruler and lots of small pieces. The sunflower is just at the quarter mark. I just love how they turned out. Great instructions again. Thanks, Julie.

The Sunflower is a beautiful pattern to carve on leather and these patterns have a very realistic look to them. Originally created for a class at an IFoLG Show over 15 years ago, Jim Linnell created the wallet pattern included in this pack. Since then, Jim has created a number of beautiful sunflower patterns for leather, some of which he has yet to carve.

It's been a while! Several months (yes MONTHS!) ago, I started working on a paper sunflower tutorial for you, and turns out that trying to work whilst also looking after a baby full time isn't that easy - who knew?! Anyway, I have FINALLY finished the tutorial and it's ready and waiting for you right now!

I know most of us are starting to think about Christmas now rather than seasonal flowers like the sunflower, but thats the beauty of paper flowers - you can have any flower you like, year round! Sunflowers work great in winter displays too, just pair them with some cooler toned flowers, such as anemones and winter foliage. Or even switch the yellow crepe for some white to create some icy white blooms ready for winter.

With this tutorial I'm teaching you step by step how to make not one but 2 sunflowers from crepe paper. Using my sunflower template you'll be able to make both a standard size sunflower, and an extra large sunflower too.

I also have a quicker, timelapse version of the tutorial for you too. So if you just want to quickly watch the steps in advance, or want to get an idea of the steps before you get started making your paper sunflower alongside the full video, you can!
