Former Georgia Tech assistant coach, and current Ave Maria University Head Coach, John Kelly has honed his softball hitting knowledge over 19 years of coaching, including nine years at the elite travel and high school levels in San Diego. John has coached elite hitters and slappers that have gone on to play at Auburn, Stanford, Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Villanova, UIC, Boston U, Virginia and many more. His high school team won a California CIF State title in 2015, and several of his travel teams placed or won regional and national tourney titles. John's teams play an ultra aggressive "west coast" style that enabled his 2020 Ave Maria team to finish 19-5 and steal 94 bases in just 24 games, and score 7.29 runs/game; ranking them #2/#7 in the nation. John played D1 baseball at the University of San Diego and holds a master's degree in sports psychology from the University of Missouri.
