Quintet Musicians and Biographies
Daniel Rath, flute
A Minnesota native, Daniel begin studying flute at the age 16. After attending Minnesota State University, he earned a Masters of Music Performance degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied with Timothy Day. Daniel plays principal flute with the Summit Symphony Orchestra and has held the same position with the Mankato Symphony. In the New Jersey area, he also plays with the August Symphony and the South Orange Symphony. Daniel has performed as a soloist with the Summit Symphony, the University of Southern California, as well as the Minnesota Valley Summer Festival. As a recitalist he has performed the range of flute repertoire, from Bach to Aaron Jay Kernis, with whom he has collaborated. Other teachers include Bart Feller and Barbara Leibundguth. Daniel also studies piano and had a long career in tech.
Randall Wolfgang, oboe
Randall Wolfgang is an internationally renowned oboist. He held the position of principal oboist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra for 37 years. He was also a member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra during its formative years, when it went from an unknown, conductor-less New York chamber orchestra to a famous orchestra touring the world and recording for the Deutsche Grammophon label. His playing is featured on more than 30 recordings, including Mozart’s Oboe Concerto. Mr. Wolfgang has been the principal oboist of the New York City Opera Orchestra since 1992. His past accomplishments include a Grammy Award, and many years as principal oboist and faculty member at the Aspen Music Festival, and guest artist and faculty member at the Aspen Music Festival in Nagano Japan. He has appeared at the Marlboro, the Manadnock Music Festivals and the Great Mountains International Festival and School in South Korea. He was on the faculty of Queens College and The Manhattan School of Music.
Martha Boughner, clarinet
Martha Reed Boughner taught, supervised, and served as Master Teacher for 42 years with 3 private music teaching programs until her retirement in 2019. She now teaches clarinet as an adjunct faculty member at Drew University. Martha appeared as clarinet soloist with the North Penn Symphony and Lukens Steel Company Band in Pennsylvania, and the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra in New Jersey. Her performing groups have included the above organizations, as well as the Plainfield Symphony, Garden State Concert Band, Hanover Wind Symphony, New Jersey Workshop in the Arts Concert Band, and the Bloomfield Civic Band. She played for 30 years with the Silver Starlite Orchestra, a 40’s-style big band and substitutes with several of the above- mentioned groups. Currently, Martha performs with the Summit Symphony, Drew University Orchestra, and the Caldwell University Wind Ensemble. She is an accomplished performer on saxophone and oboe, as well as clarinet and bass clarinet. Ms. Boughner holds a bachelor’s degree in clarinet performance from Douglass College, M. Mus in clarinet from Syracuse University, where she was an adjunct faculty member teaching clarinet, M. Ed in Educational Administration and Supervision from Rutgers University, and M. Theological Studies from Drew University.
Atsuko Sato, bassoon
Atsuko Sato, bassoon, graduated from Toho School of Music in Japan and The Juilliard School in New York. She is the bassoonist for the Tony winning “The Phantom of the Opera”, Emmy winning “Wonder Pets”, and the Grammy nominated “Englewinds Ensemble.” A former member of the Detroit Symphony, Ms. Sato currently freelances with many organizations in tri-state area.
Anthony Cecere, french horn
Anthony Cecere, french horn, was raised in Hicksville, NY, and graduated from the University of Michigan. Tony has long been active in the New York musical scene. He joined the New Jersey Symphony in 1976 and was Principal Horn of the New Orleans Philharmonic from 1980–84, appearing as a soloist with them on numerous occasions. Tony was a founding member of the American Chamber Players of Washington, DC and performed as an extra musician with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for more than a decade. He has also performed with such groups as the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the NY Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Delaware Symphony and has been a member of the Philadelphia Brass for almost 20 years. Tony has been Principal horn of the Bach Festival Orchestra of Bethlehem since 1994.
His recording credits include solo concerti by Mozart and Haydn, Twilight Music for violin, horn and piano by John Harbison (Library of Congress), The Anniversary Album, Christmas in the Grand Tradition – The Wanamaker Organ, Notes from Faraway Places music of David Sampson, with Philadelphia Brass, Joseph Haydn Divertimento a tre in Eb and Blues for Monk by David Amram for Voce Verace recordings. He also played for the Bach Choir’s recordings of the Mass in b minor and the Christmas Oratorio as well as Christmas in Bethlehem Volume 4.
Tony has played for many Broadway musicals including Sunday in the Park with George, Will Rogers Follies, Beauty and the Beast and toured briefly with Frank Sinatra in 1992. He lives in Bernardsville, NJ with his wife, cellist Gerall Hieser. He loves railroads big and small and any wine from an upstart Sonoma vintner.
