Upon reflecting on my venture idea and pitch I found that there were a few things I could have mentioned more in depth. A weakness was that I did not explain the reason for charging for courses and not having a free-access components like some of the market competitors. I chose this route simply because DIY itself always charges to ensure uninterrupted and safe, add-free learning. This is why I decided to keep a charge for course modules rather than free audit options offered by competitors. It was mentioned by fellow EVAs that perhaps my charges are too low for the course modules. The reason I priced them quite low was to ensure an initial audience and to compete with free alternatives that may not offer as much but, people value due to being free. I don’t think it devalues the quality of my venture idea because there are also good quality free educational courses/sites out there but, without as many perks such as add-free learning or having all the courses in one location.
By mentioning in my venture pitch my 10 plus years of teaching experience and the fact that I only had teacher make and run the educaitonal courses alongside DIYs expert led courses, I thought that was sufficient for expressing the value in my venture’s courses in comparison to alternatives. However, in the future I would add in teacher biographies as well to showcase their expertise and accomplishments for added value once the venture hires on more teachers upon it's initial monetary success. It was also brought to my attention from feedback from my colleagues that a sample of one of the course modules would’ve helped with visualizing the courses for potential investors. I agree that this would’ve been a good addition to my slides and would add a rich visual component rather than relying on people being familiar with DIY courses featured in the pitch.
I must also admit my investment ask and return are not necessarily the most accurate reflection of real-world costs and estimates and this is just simply down to my limited background in crunching numbers. It is something I will continue to research and rely on other professionals with more experience to guide me in for in future ventures in educational technology.
