Hi, I’m Dr. Sumit Kumar. I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. My research is broadly focused on nano-engineered materials and devices. I completed my PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur, where I was fortunate to work under the supervision of Prof. Mahesh Kumar. My doctoral work was recognized with the prestigious C. V. Raman Gold Medal for Best PhD Thesis (2025 batch).

My doctoral thesis work was focused on developing high-performance and low-power-consumption resistive gas sensors using semiconducting hetero-interfaces. I aim to develop low-cost sensors for real-time monitoring in the ambient atmosphere. Such low-cost, portable sensors could provide immediate results. They can significantly impact public health outcomes in various settings, including the petroleum industry, sewer lines, automobiles, fuel cell systems, and scientific labs, among many other places where these poisonous and flammable gases are present. My Postdoctoral research work is focused on designing and developing nano-engineered materials and device fabrication, such as ECG pulse sensors, chemical sensors, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), and frequency modulation systems. My supporting institution, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and my principal investigator have extensive experience in this field, with numerous industry partnerships and international collaborations. It offers both invaluable contacts and industry-specific knowledge that helps facilitate my investigation.
